Full marks to Givanni Smith for a “muted” celebration on his first goal. It was a beautiful tip and would have passed a challenge, but he understood the situation and kept it close. Well done

Poor guy, plays his ass off since he has been up with Detroit and finally gets his first NHL goal and can't even celebrate because of the piss-poor effort of this team. Just a pathetic effort. Something does need to change. It's one thing to have less talent than the team you are playing but you make it up by effort FFS!! It's another to put forth the effort what has been on the ice the majority of this season.

It’s not effort. They’re just that bad.

For me tonight it’s both. I’ve written that I can take the loss if they’re playing hard. Just seemed like they didn’t care about this for too much of it. Awful to watch.

But yes, they are bad. It’s expected. Just at least stick up for each other

I will admit I don't really follow the Wings as an Isles fan. First off there is not overwhelming talent on the team and they seemed to spend a lot on veterans that really weren't going to help long term. Frans Nielsen, Val Filppula etc. But there is talent on the team.

The Wings need to decide whether this is something that can be turned in a year or more like 3. If the latter they should sell now. Have a fire sale.

Players like Nielsen, Filppula, are perfect 3rd line center additions for the playoffs. If the Wings lowered expectations of their return or kept some salary they would have opportunity to start shedding some age and salary and let the young kids play.

On the back end, Mike Green at 34 could be a nice addition for a playoff bound team.

Wingers, Abdelkader and Glendening are in 30's. Perfect time to make a trade. Yes they make money and haven't had the best seasons but on better teams they would be nice 3rd line players.

Unfortunately the Detroit goaltending has not been good and unless a team really needs a backup and is willing to take a risk Jimmy Howard isn't going anywhere.

Detroit should use this season as an opportunity to purge. Clean out players that others may want and keep some salary but start fresh.

The post is much appreciated! Luckily most contracts are up fairly soon. On Defense only Dekeyser, Nemeth and Hronek are signed past this year (in AHL Seider, Lashoff, Cholowski too). Nielsen for 2 more years, but Abby for 3 more after this year. Fil signed for 2. Jimmy is done after this year as well. A lot of opportunity coming, 20 contracts up across the organization.

I agree there is talent for sure. Mantha (when healthy), Larkin, Bert, Zadina coming along, Seider coming along, Hronek, G. Smith, Veleno, Berggren looking better. Rasmussen and Svechnikov still a question mark at this point.

Hopefully this is the worst year of the rebuild. It is brutal right now
